Ground broken for "symbol of collaboration"

Terre Haute and Indiana State University officials broke ground today for the Cherry Street Multi-Modal Transportation Facility, a key component of downtown revitalization. The $13.4 million facility will provide 628 parking spaces and a new transfer facility for city buses. Combined with other downtown developments, the project is aimed at attracting more people and businesses to downtown Terre Haute. It is the latest example of an ongoing partnership between the university and the city.

Fairy tales are focus of Hoosier Folklore Conference

The Hoosier Folklore Conference and Hoosier Folklore Society annual meeting will be this Thursday and Friday (November 9-10) at ISU. This year's theme -- Fairy Tales and the Creative Imagination -- features a variety of lecturing scholars, including Maria Tatar, the John L. Loeb Professor of Germanic Languages and Literatures at Harvard University, and Jack Zipes, Professor of German, University of Minnesota.

ROTC cadets host Veterans' Day ceremony and vigil

Army and Air Force ROTC cadets from Indiana State University will host a Veterans' Day Wreath Ceremony at noon on Friday, Nov. 10; and a 24- hour vigil at the Vigo County Courthouse from 9 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 10, to 9 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 11.

Opera Workshop Performs Nov. 18 and 19

An evening of one-act operas will be presented by the Opera Workshop of Indiana State University on Saturday, Nov. 18 and Sunday, Nov. 19 beginning at 7:30 p.m. in the Recital Hall of the Center for Performing and Fine Arts on the ISU campus.

Symphony Orchestra to Perform Nov. 16

On Thursday, Nov. 16, the Indiana State University Symphony Orchestra will join the worldwide celebrations of two important musical milestones -- the 250th anniversary of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's birth, and the 100th anniversary of Dmitri Shostakovich's birth -- with a concert at 7:30 p.m. in Tilson Auditorium.

New student organization to build, manage drag race team

Through a new student organization, Team Sycamore Racing, ISU students will operate, manage and drive a dragster at local speedways. The team is being formed as the university implements its new minor in motorsports, and is working in conjunction with the automotive technology management program, but the team is not limited to motorsports students.

Suellen Reed to give keynote at Sycamore Educators Day

Hundreds of teachers and administrators from throughout the states of Indiana and Illinois will take advantage of a wide variety of workshops on technology, best practices and leadership challenges in education during Indiana State University's tenth annual Sycamore Educators Day Nov. 4. Suellen Reed, superintendent of public instruction for the State of Indiana will give the keynote address.
