Indiana State University has announced the recipients of its 2026 faculty awards, recognizing outstanding achievements in teaching, research, and service. These honors represent the highest level of faculty recognition at the university and celebrate individuals whose work reflect a deep commitment to academic excellence and student success.
 
The awardees will be formally recognized during the annual Faculty Recognition Banquet on April 16.

“Indiana State University’s faculty are at the heart of everything we do,” said Interim Provost Brad Balch. “These honorees exemplify excellence in the classroom, innovation in their scholarly work, and meaningful service to both the campus and the broader community. Their contributions elevate the student experience and strengthen our institution in lasting ways.”

President’s Medal for Exemplary Contributions and Dedication
Indiana State University’s highest faculty honor, the President’s Medal, is awarded to:
  • Jennifer Latimer, Chair and Professor, Department of Earth and Environmental Systems 
  • Linda Sperry, Professor, Department of Applied Clinical and Educational Sciences 
Caleb Mills Distinguished Teaching Awards
Recognizing excellence in instruction and student engagement:
  • Brendan Corcoran, Professor, Department of English 
  • Melanie D’Amico, Associate Professor, Department of Languages, Literatures, and Linguistics 
  • Carly Schmitt, Associate Professor, Department of Political Science 
Theodore Dreiser Distinguished Research and Creativity Awards
Honoring exceptional scholarship and creative contributions:
  • Levi Allen, Assistant Professor, Department of Political Science 
  • James Gustafson, Professor, Department of History 
  • Lain Mathers, Associate Professor, Department of Multidisciplinary Studies 
Faculty Distinguished Service Awards
Recognizing sustained service and leadership:
  • Carly Schmitt, Associate Professor, Department of Political Science 
Faculty Award for Community-Based Learning and Scholarship
  • Elsun Seung, Professor, Department of Chemistry and Physics
