Indiana State University has appointed Dr. Kelley Woods-Johnson as Associate Provost for Student Success and Advising, a key leadership role focused on advancing student outcomes and strengthening support systems across the institution.
As Associate Provost, Woods-Johnson will coordinate university-wide student success efforts, lead a comprehensive advising strategy, and chair the Student Success Council. Her work will center on improving student outcomes through intentional, student-focused systems designed to support persistence, progress, and completion.
“Dr. Woods-Johnson brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the position,” said Interim Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Brad Balch. “She will be a strong and impactful addition to the Academic Affairs leadership team.”
Woods-Johnson joined Indiana State University in 2018 as Director of Assessment and Program Effectiveness and has served as Interim Associate Provost for Student Success and Advising since January. In that role, she has helped guide student success initiatives and advising strategy during a period of continued institutional focus on retention, persistence, and student support.
Prior to joining Indiana State, Woods-Johnson served as Assistant Dean of Students for Student Advocacy and Assistant Director of Residence Life at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, where her work focused on student advocacy, engagement, and support.
She holds a bachelor’s degree in education and a master’s degree in educational foundations from the University of Cincinnati, as well as a Ph.D. in higher education from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University.
Woods-Johnson’s appointment reflects Indiana State’s continued commitment to strengthening the student experience through coordinated support, intentional advising, and a campus-wide culture of care that helps students succeed from enrollment to graduation.
