Tim Wiseman, a 1991 alumnus of Indiana State University, has boldly given $150,000 in support of multiple scholarships benefitting deserving students.
Wiseman’s gift will fully endow four scholarships that have yet to hit the minimum level to endow a scholarship, increasing their endowment level above $25,000. Additionally, his generous gift created two new endowed scholarships.
“Thanks to Tim’s generosity, more Indiana State University students will now have access to vital funds to pursue their education within several in-demand industries. As an institution, we are humbled to have alums committed to investing in the success of their alma mater and current Sycamores,” said Mike Godard, President of Indiana State University.
After graduating with a bachelor’s degree in business management, Wiseman dedicated his 32-year career to working with Advanced Drainage Systems, one of North America's largest plastic recycling groups, before retiring in July 2024. During his time at Indiana State University, Wiseman was a member and two-time president of Pi Kappa Alpha (ΠΚΑ) and has chosen to give back to the fraternity that positively impacted his life beyond his time at Indiana State.
“It’s important to invest your time into what helped you succeed. I credit my success to Indiana State and Pi Kappa Alpha, and I wanted to give back to students facing financial barriers,” said Wiseman. “By increasing the number of awards I give towards, my donation can support more students who otherwise would not have the opportunity to continue their education. I thought that was a great way to multiply the effect of my donation.”
Wiseman is supporting four scholarships: the Alumni Scholarship in Teaching, the James A. Woodard Community Service Award, the Joseph L. Quinn Memorial Scholarship, and the Pi Kappa Alpha Alumni Scholarship.
The first scholarship, The Alumni Scholarship in Teaching, was created by Brian Breeden-Thomas and is intended for ΠΚΑ members in the Bayh College of Education who are pursuing careers in teaching. The James A. Woodard Community Service Award was created through a gift from Terry Cunningham in honor of James A. Woodard, a local businessman who prioritized serving the community, to be awarded to a student who demonstrates the same ideals. The third scholarship, The Joseph L. Quinn Memorial Scholarship, was created by Mary Quinn in honor of her husband to be awarded to members of Pi Kappa Alpha who demonstrate outstanding leadership qualities and scholastic achievement. Lastly, the Pi Kappa Alpha Alumni Scholarship is awarded to students who are active members of the Theta Omicron Chapter of Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity and who contribute to the chapter's success and emulate the fraternity’s principles.
In addition to contributing to these scholarships, Wiseman has also established two of his own: the Wiseman Technology Scholarship for ΠΚΑ members who major in construction management and the Pi Kappa Alpha Faith-Centered Life Award for ΠΚΑ members who recognize the centrality of faith in building a life with meaning. Because of his commitment and joyful giving, Wiseman will continue to positively impact Sycamores for generations to come.
“Generous donations from outstanding alumni like Tim Wiseman help members of Pi Kappa Alpha at Indiana State be able to make academics a priority and take some of the financial burden off our shoulders,” said Nick Bement, president of the Theta Omicron Chapter of the Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity. “It truly shows the lifelong brotherhood of our Fraternity, and we could not be more grateful."
