The Indiana State University School of Music will commemorate the generosity of Lt. Margaret "Peg" L. Boyce at 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 17 in the Landini Center for the Performing and Fine Arts.
Boyce, a 1949 State graduate and longtime supporter of the vocal music program, recently gifted over $1 million to the School of Music.
"The generosity of Lt. Boyce will have a lasting impact on the School of Music," said Scott Buchanan, director of choral music and interim director of the School of Music. "This gift will not only help us maintain and upgrade our facilities and instruments, it will also allow us to expand our visiting artist series, guest lectureships and faculty development activities. Lastly, a significant portion of the gift was added to the existing Margaret L. Boyce Endowed Scholarship in choral music, which will help us in recruiting talented singers into our program."
The event, which is free and open to the public, will include a concert, followed by a reception and the official dedication and renaming of the Margaret L Boyce Recital Hall and Atrium, located in the Landini Center for the Performing and Fine Arts.
"To have such a big event right at the start of the academic year is great motivation for our students," Buchanan said. "They are very excited for the opportunity to perform in front of an audience this early."
The program will include a variety of individual student performers, as well as the University Chorale and the Sycamore Singers.
"Knowing that Lt. Boyce has such an affinity for choral and vocal music, this program will feature quite a bit of singing. However, many of our talented instrumental students will perform as well," Buchanan said. "It should be a wonderful celebration."
