Lifespan Health Living Initiative announces inaugural Indiana Summer Games

Indiana State University will host the inaugural Indiana Summer Games, an Olympic style event designed to promote healthy lifestyles through sports and recreation.

\"We are excited to announce the 2015 Indiana Summer Games,\" said Jeriah Threlfall, president of the games and director of the Lifespan Health Living Initiative at Indiana State. \"While athletes will compete for medals, it is our hope that participants focus on fun and camaraderie with teammates as well as opponents. Instilling healthy values is our primary goal. The mission of the Indiana Summer Games is to promote health, fitness, and positive lifestyles through amateur sports and community outreach.\"

Indiana State is already host to Indiana Special Olympics and Indiana Summer Games are a great way for the university to expand its reputation for hosting quality amateur athletic events, Threlfall said.

Games will be played on the Indiana State University campus and other locations in Terre Haute on the following dates:

• June 26-28 - boys and girls soccer, baseball (ages 8 and under, 10 and under and 12 and under)

• July 10-12 - boys and girls basketball, mountain biking

• July 17-19 - baseball (6 and under, 7 and under, 9 and under, 11 and under, 13 and under; softball

The Lifespan Healthy Living Initiative is an Indiana State University Unbounded Possibilities program.
