As an extension of the 2010-11 Visiting Artist and Scholar Series, the University Art Gallery at Indiana State University will be screening episodes of the PBS series "Art:21-Art in the Twenty-First Century."
Each event will feature distinct themes-play, humor, systems, romance, time, spirituality and compassion-as well as artists from the five seasons of "Art:21." Following each screening will be a discussion of the episode.
"Art:21" is the only television series to focus exclusively on contemporary visual art and artists in the United States. The viewer has the opportunity to observe the artists at work, watch the process of transforming inspiration into art and hear the artists' thoughts as they grapple with the physical and visual challenges of achieving their artistic visions.
Featured artists include Jessica Stockholder, Oliver Herring, Arturo Herrera, Ellen Gallagher, Teresa Hubbard, Alexander Birchler, Antin, Raymond Pettibon, Elizabeth Murray, Walton Ford, Julie Mehretu, John Baldessari, Kimsooja, Allan McCollum, Laurie Simmons, Lari Pittman, Judy Pfaff, Pierre Huyghe, Martin Puryear, Paul Pfeiffer, Vija Celmins, Tim Hawkinson, Ann Hamilton, John Feodorov, Shahzia Sikander, James Turrell, William Kentridge, Carrie Mae Weems and Doris Salcedo.
