TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Indiana State University will offer six non-credit business and professional development courses this fall, beginning Sept. 23.
Looking to start your own business' The course "Business Feasibility and Basic Plan Writing" will provide you with the foundation that you need to get started.
The feasibility analysis will help evaluate whether participants have the skills most common to entrepreneurial success, if there is market potential for their idea, if they have the financial resources to start their own business and where they can turn for help in accessing financial assistance.
The Business Plan Writing session will cover all aspects of developing a business plan from the executive summary, to business description, marketing, management, operations, critical risks, milestones, financials, and more.
This course will be offered in two sessions. Session one will meet Tuesday, Sept. 23 and Thursday, Sept. 25 while session two will be conducted Tuesday, Oct. 7 and Thursday, Oct. 9. Both sessions will be held in the John T. Myers Technology Center, Room 103E from 6- 8 p.m.
Magda Narczewska, a business consultant at the Center for Business Support and Economic Innovation at Indiana State, will instruct the course. There is a fee of $25 per session.
"ASP/CSP Examination Preparation" will improve knowledge and skills expected of safety professionals. Topics covered are based on the Board of Certified Safety Professions (BCSP) requirements for the ASP/CSP examination. Basic mathematics, physics, mechanics, chemistry, hydraulics, economics, and scientific calculator skills development are also taught. Each attendee will receive a home study workbook for reviewing more than 900 questions and problems of all the topics required. This course is offered 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., Nov. 5, 6 and 7 at the Aviation Technology Center at the Indianapolis International Airport, 2175 S. Hoffman Road. Boris Blyukher, professor of health and safety at ISU, will instruct the course. There is a fee of $599.
Another course provides an understanding of the concepts of geometric tolerances and gives participants hands-on experience with Capability Maturity Model (CMM) to estimate tolerances. The course will be offered 1:30-4 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 28 and Thursday, Oct. 30 in the Myers Center, Room 107. There is a fee of $50.
"Managing Supply Chain Costs" will introduce the subjects of supply chains and their associated costs. Supply chain ordering strategies and managing supply chains will be discussed. This course is offered 1:30-4 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 11 and Thursday, Nov. 13 in the Myers Center, Room 107. There is a fee of $50.
The course "Lean Manufacturing Techniques" will explore topics such as waste reduction, cleanliness and effective organization. A project will be required as part of this workshop. This course will be offered Tuesday, Oct. 14 and Thursday, Oct. 16 from 1:30-4 p.m. in the Myers Center, Room 107. There is a fee of $50.
Manufacturing classes are under the instruction of M. Affan Badar, assistant professor of industrial and mechanical technology at Indiana State.
ISU offers non-credit courses to promote, develop, and offer quality education programs to the community.
