Today, Military Times magazine named Indiana State University the top university in the State of Indiana for veterans and members of the United States military, according to the magazine’s 2025 annual “Best for Vets” rankings.
“We could not be more honored to be named the best university and higher education institution in the State of Indiana for this year’s Military Times ranking,” said Indiana State University President Mike Godard. “We have worked diligently throughout our university to create opportunities for our military veterans and their families to provide opportunities to earn their degrees and continue to serve our country and communities.”
Indiana State University met a high number of the magazine’s award criteria for this year’s recognition that are important to veterans seeking to gain a training certificate, Baccalaureate degree or a graduate degree. Those include providing career services tailored to military students, priority class registration processes, providing financial assistance for military-connected students, and providing mental health services for all veterans and military-connected students.
Indiana State University offers assistance in many ways throughout its academics, but also when it comes to military families and the educational needs of their children. For example, the McCarthy Early Childhood Education Center at Indiana State University is an authorized provider for the Military Fee Assistance Program sponsored by Childcare Aware of America. The assistance program supports service members who do not have access to military-affiliated childcare in their geographic region by helping to offset the cost of participation in civilian childcare. Further, Childcare Aware helps to connect military-affiliated families with high-quality civilian childcare providers across the country.
The Early Childhood Education Center currently has two families who qualify for support through the program.
