More than 275 students, faculty, staff, alumni, and community members gathered at University Hall on Tuesday, January 17, for Indiana State University’s annual “State of the University” address. The event, hosted in the University Hall auditorium, highlighted the institution’s continued progress and future direction under the theme, “The State of the University is Strong.”

Indiana State University President Mike Godard delivered the address after being introduced by Student Government Association President Chase Witsman, who welcomed attendees and underscored the importance of reflecting on the University’s progress while looking ahead with optimism and purpose.

Throughout the presentation, President Godard outlined key indicators of institutional strength and stability. He emphasized the University’s strong financial position, noting responsible stewardship and disciplined decision-making that align resources with mission and measurable impact. He affirmed that Indiana State’s financial health provides a solid foundation for continued growth and strategic investment.

Enrollment trends were another focal point of the address. President Godard shared that all major enrollment indicators are trending positively and expressed confidence that this momentum will continue. He emphasized that the University’s focus extends beyond enrollment growth to persistence and completion—ensuring that students not only begin their journey at Indiana State but graduate prepared for meaningful careers and lives of impact.

The address also highlighted the continued strength of donor and alumni engagement. President Godard commended the work of the Indiana State University Foundation in elevating the University’s philanthropic impact. He underscored that philanthropy is not supplemental to the University’s mission, but rather a force multiplier—accelerating initiatives, expanding opportunities, and making transformative student experiences possible.

Central to the University’s success, President Godard noted, is the excellence of its faculty. He described faculty as the cornerstone of student success through outstanding teaching, meaningful mentorship, and impactful scholarship and creative activity. These efforts, he said, help shape an exceptional student experience and reinforce Indiana State’s commitment to academic quality and innovation.

The address also connected current momentum to the University’s new Strategic Plan, outlining a clear and focused path forward. Framed by priorities such as innovative curriculum, an exceptional student experience, and unified people and processes—along with overarching commitments to a Culture of Care and Career-Connectedness—the plan positions Indiana State University to build on its strengths and continue advancing its mission.

As the event concluded, attendees were reminded that the University’s progress is the result of collective effort and shared commitment. With strong institutional health, positive enrollment momentum, engaged alumni and donors, and dedicated faculty and staff, Indiana State University continues to move forward with confidence and purpose.
