As part of the Visiting Artist program, Bennett will conduct interactive, hands-on workshops to help adults and children explore fiber arts. “I love teaching kids and adults new skills and watching their eyes light up as they learn,” Bennett shared. “Witnessing the moment when a concept ‘clicks’ for my students is immensely gratifying.”

In her Community School of the Arts (CSA) role, Bennett helps children and adults uncover their artistic abilities. The Community School of the Arts enriches the lives of those who live in the Wabash Valley regardless of age, economic circumstances, or ability level. Programming blends the realms of Fine and Performing Arts, including S.T.E.A.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math) based learning, creating an immersive environment where creativity flourishes. The CSA, part of Indiana State’s Division of University Engagement, is one of the few comprehensive educational outreach programs of its kind in Indiana and one of the very few in the United States.

“At Indiana State University, her leadership and talents have helped the Community School of the Arts’ mission of enriching people's lives in the Wabash Valley through an artistic approach. Emily is so deserving of this prestigious honor, and I'm happy to see her talents will make an impact across the State of Indiana,” said Dr. Nancy Rogers, Vice President for University Engagement at Indiana State University.
