Miss ISU to compete for Miss Indiana

Erica Eisenhut is in it to win.

As Miss Indiana State University, Eisenhut is among 29 young women hoping to become the next Miss Indiana.

The Vincennes resident began competing in pageants while still in high school. She was crowned Miss ISU last September.

“I got involved because it opened a window to meeting new people, pay for college and to attain personal goals,” Eisenhut said. “The personal platform also was an advantage to competing in pageants. It gave me an opportunity to give back to the community.”

Eisenhut’s platform is stopping the acceptance of sexual harassment at work, school and life.

“Erica has done a wonderful job representing ISU at events all year long,” said Al Perone, associate dean of students at Indiana State.

Perone describes Eisenhut as always upbeat and positive.

She has worked hard in all areas of the competition and will represent Indiana State University well at Miss Indiana,” Perone said. “She has been an outstanding role model for other women in our community.”

Aside from pageants, Eisenhut has volunteered at Special Olympics, the United Cerebral Palsy telethon and Clothe-a-Child.

A senior marketing major at Indiana State, Eisenhut, who graduates in May, hopes to work for a company such as Apple computers or Coca-Cola as a marketing advisor.

Aside from moving on to the Miss America pageant, Eisenhut has other reasons for wanting to become Miss Indiana.

“It will most likely open up doors for me in the professional world. It will give me a once in a life time opportunity to compete at Miss America,” she said.

“I will meet many fantastic people around the nation that also work towards making the world a better place. I will be a role model for many children to look up to. Perhaps most importantly, I would be awarded thousands of dollars in scholarships to help pay for continuing my education.”

Eisenhut is a 2005 graduate of Lincoln High School. She is the daughter of J.D. and Lori Eisenhut.

The Miss Indiana Scholarship Pageant will take place June 18 through 21 at the Zionsville Community Schools Performing Arts Center in Zionsville.
