TERRE HAUTE, Ind. • Wabash Valley residents will be able to take charge of their health while taking advantage of free health screenings at a Community Health Fair Feb. 23 from 9 a.m. to noon at the Landsbaum Center for Health Education, located at 1433 North 6 ½ Street, one block south of Union Hospital.
Indiana University School of Medicine -Terre Haute, Indiana State University’s nursing department, ISU’s Rowe Center for Communication Disorders, ISU’s family and consumer sciences department, ISU psychology department, ISU athletic training department, Ivy Tech Community College respiratory therapy department, AP&S Clinic, Anderson Chiropractic, Hamilton Center, Kool Smile, the Martin Center and Wal-Mart will offer screenings for:
• Body Mass Index (BMI)
• Blood Pressure
• Pulse
• Glucose
• Lead Poisoning
• Hearing
• Posture
• Balance
• Depression
• Glaucoma
• Vision
• Pulmonary Function
• Bone Density
• Sickle Cell
• Spinal screening
• Dental screening for children
Faculty and students from the Ivy Tech massage therapy program will be giving mini shoulder and neck massages. The Butler University Pharmacy faculty and staff will be on hand to provide information on medications at their “Ask a Pharmacist†exhibit.
In addition to participating in screenings, learn more about community agencies and gather health information about conditions such as alzheimer’s disease, arthritis, asthma, diabetes, fibromyalgia, nutrition and hypertension by visiting more than 80 exhibits. Wabash Valley residents can sample healthy snacks, courtesy of Baesler’s Market.
While learning about your health, help others by donating blood. The Indiana Blood Center will be in the Landbaum Center with their mobile unit. Donors should be at least 17 years old, in good health, and weigh a minimum of 110 pounds.
There will be plenty of activities to keep children busy, courtesy of the Vigo County School Corporation. The Union Hospital Family Medicine Center will read stories to children as part of its Reach Out and Read Program. The Vigo County Sheriff’s Department will be on hand to provide fingerprint records to parents.
