More than 850 students are eligible to participate in Indiana State University’s Winter Commencement Saturday, Dec.15.
The graduation processional is scheduled to start at 1:45 p.m. with the ceremony beginning at 2 p.m. at ISU’s Hulman Center. About 650 of the students are eligible for undergraduate degrees while about 200 will receive advanced degrees.
Kirby Rice, a journalism major from Brownstown, was selected as the commencement speaker.
“It’s just always been a dream of mine,†Rice said on being selected to be the speaker. “I enjoy speaking in front of people.â€Â
In her speech before her fellow graduates, Rice will reflect upon her days at ISU.
“College definitely prepares you and it’s a wonderful time, but there’s so much ahead of us also,†Rice said about her speech.
Rice, who currently works for WTHI Channel 10, hopes to work as a television reporter.
One graduate, Amanda Wilson, an education major from Fort Wayne, will receive the Hines Memorial Medal for achieving a 4.0 grade point average. The award, named for Linnaeus Neal Hines, who served as university president from 1921 through 1933, is given to the graduating senior with the highest grade point average.
“I really have my family, friends and professors to thank for their support and encouragement while at ISU,†she said.
