TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - Indiana State University Hispanic Student Association is presenting Hispanic Global Night from 7-11 p.m., Oct. 13 in Hulman Memorial Student Union, Dede I, II and III.
The theme for this year's Hispanic Global Night is "Nuestra Comunidad Hispana: Una Cultura Hecha a Mano" (Our Hispanic Community - A Handcrafted Culture). Featured at the gala will be authentic Hispanic cuisine, cultural performances, dance, music, games and much more.
Gerardo Cummings, assistant professor of languages, literatures and linguistics, will present “Controversial Hibridity in the Iconography of Contemporary Latin American Art.†The interactive presentation will cover the commercialization of the Christ-like figure of Ernesto “Che†Guevara, and the divergent influences in contemporary Latin American art and what such iconography says about the world we live in.
Hispanic Global Night serves as a way of bringing to a close the Hispanic Awareness Month, celebrated throughout the USA since 1968, but expanded under the Reagan presidency in 1988.
