Indiana State University has announced the promotion of Carrie Lutz to Associate Vice President of Student Experience and Engagement, where she will provide leadership within the division and help advance student-centered priorities aligned with the University’s Strategic Plan. Lutz succeeds Ardell J. Sanders, who was recently appointed Indiana State University Chief of Staff.
Lutz currently serves as Executive Director of Career Services, where she has led initiatives that strengthen student career preparation, enhance student employment opportunities, and deepen employer and alumni engagement. In her new role, she will oversee the Career Center, Center for Community Engagement, Student Activities and Organizations, and the Community School of the Arts, while also playing a key leadership role in employee and career-connectedness initiatives tied to the Strategic Plan.
“Carrie is a trusted, experienced campus leader whose care for students and our community is evident in all she does,” said Nancy Rogers, Vice President for Student Experience and Engagement. “Her promotion to Associate Vice President of Student Experience and Engagement reflects the positive impact she has across our campus. She will play a key leadership role in employee and career connectedness initiatives related to the strategic plan.”
Since joining the Indiana State University Career Services Center in May 2023, Lutz has led a team of career service professionals supporting student career readiness and professional competency development. Her work includes oversight of the student employment and internship team, management of office budgets, creation of a comprehensive marketing plan for Career Services, support of the first destination survey collection, and overall career services strategy to support expanded connection of current Sycamores to employers and alumni.
Lutz brings a broad background in higher education leadership and engagement to her new role. Prior to joining Career Services, she served as Business Engagement Director in University Engagement, fostering entrepreneurship, supporting sustainability and innovation initiatives, and partnering with local businesses and economic development organizations to connect students with project-based learning opportunities.
She has also held multiple leadership roles in University Marketing, including Interim Executive Director of Marketing/Chief Marketing Officer, where she oversaw the University’s brand and institutional marketing strategy, and Client Services Director, where she led integrated marketing campaigns and supervised creative and digital teams. Earlier in her career, Lutz worked as a Licensed Athletic Trainer and Marketing Coordinator in Indiana State’s Physical Therapy and Sports Rehabilitation Clinic.
Her promotion reflects Indiana State University’s continued investment in experienced, student-focused leadership and in building integrated pathways that support engagement, success, and career readiness for all Sycamores.
